I believe the reason for Apple to have an OS 4.0 event directly after the iPad launch is because they will show us that the next OS has their own version of multi-tasking that everybody complains about is missing on both the iPhone and the iPad.
If they announce it fast they get to sell even more iPads because they will be upgradable to the new OS as soon as it's ready.
I'm pretty sure the reason for the event is to show us that the next OS will have the missing features on the iPad.

Reminds me of when Apple added multitasking to the Mac Plus era platform. Those early Macs sooo needed multitasking. Apr 7, 2010 Stefan Ålund –
I was also thinking about this. You could also interpret i differently. Why couldn't Apple have held this event before the iPad launch, and thus sell even more devices?
In any case I think they will introduce multitasking in one way or the other. Otherwise they would have made a public announcement to not support multitasking. Apr 7, 2010 svartling ™ –
@Stefan Ålund "Otherwise they would have made a public announcement to not support multitasking" That's so true. In any case we will see something really interesting tomorrow. I'm sure of that! :) Apr 7, 2010 svartling ™ –
Cliff: I'm sorry to say that I cant remember that because I was a Windows PC (or maybe Amiga or Commodore 64?) guy back then :) Apr 7, 2010 Cliff Allen –
svartling, the Amiga used the same family of processor as the early Macs did -- but Amiga did multi-tasking with it, while Apple went for speed. Apr 8, 2010 Russell Tripp –
Man I miss my Amiga (has nothing to do w/original post) - still my favorite OS ever - and at 1 pt Mac emulation on the Amiga could actually run faster than a real Mac (until they caught up w/new chips of course)
But yeah, I think you're right, svartling - it would be smart timing and typical of how Apple tends to operate, so I won't be surprised if some form of multitasking is in the cards for OS4. Apr 8, 2010 svartling ™ –
Cliff: Yes I remember that. I think it was a Motorola 68000 CPU or something like it :) Apr 8, 2010 svartling ™ –
Russel: Yes we will see what Apple shows us later today (it's 7am here in Sweden now) Apr 8, 2010
